FoundationAnnualMeeting.TheFoundationheld
itsannualmeetingatthenationalspecialtyinCampHill,
Pa.Duringthemeeting,officersanddirectorswereelected;
theClassof2014-2015islistedabove.
WewillmissDottieAllenandJulieShannon,whowill
notbereturningasdirectors.Needlesstosay,bothofthese
individualswillbegreatlymissed.Theyhavebeenvaluable
membersoftheFoundationandhavecontributedtheirtime
andtalentstofurtherthegoalsoftheFoundation.Of
course,wewillfeelfreetocalluponthemtoforassistance.
TheannualfinancialauditwasconductedbyIngrida
Robinson,VickieWillmannandCarolDoerge,andallwas
foundtobeinorder.
NationalSpecialtyHealthClinics.Themostimpor-
tantactivitytheFoundationparticipatedinatthespecialty
wassponsorshipoftheeyeclinicandDNAblooddraw.
AndrasKomaromy,DVM,fromMichiganStateUniversity,
isactivelyinvolvedinglaucomaresearchspecificallyasit
affectsthePBGV.Dr.Komaromyexamineddogsatthe2013
specialtyalso.Howfortunatewearethathewasableto
comeagainthisyeartoprovideanelementofconsistency.
ItwassuchaprivilegefortheFoundationtobeableto
providethesponsorshipfortheeyeclinicandtheDNA
submissiontoCHIC.
HealthSpeaker.TheFoundationalsoprovided
financialsupportforthehealthspeaker,JudithShoemaker,
DVM.PleaseseethepreviouseditionofSaberTails,which
includedanarticlebyDr.Shoemaker.Thepresentationwas
verywell-receivedandexploredsomeofthecomplementary
therapiesthatcanbenefitanimals.Shealsochallengedusto
thinkoutsidetheboxabouthowimportantadog’soverall
balanceistohealthandsoundness.Thewordofthedaywas
TOENAILSandhowlongnailsaffectadoginmanyways
thatarerarelyconsidered.
Fundraising.TheFoundationstoredidaverybrisk
business.SherylBradbury,JillOttoandLauraLiscum
workeddiligentlytokeepthesalesflowing.Ofcourse,the
bigbowlofchocolatesonthecornerofthetableaswellas
beinglocatedrightnexttothecoffeeandsnacktabledidn’t
hurtourbusinesseither.Location,location,location!
AspecialthankyougoesouttoDebbiePerrott,who
generouslydonatedmanyuniqueitemstotheFoundation
fromherPBGVcollection.Ofnoteweretwonumbered
printsfrom1990thatwereintheliveauctionforthe
Foundationandalovelyceramicrabbitmoldinthesilent
auctionthatbenefitedthespecialty.
ThenextthankyougoesouttoPaulUrban,whodonated
oneofhisoriginalthemedmechanicaldesignstothelive
auctiontobenefittheFoundation,directedtorescue.
JoAnneHacker:Thankyouforyourgenerousdonation
ofavacationonBainbridgeIsland,Wash.
Thereweretwounexpectedeventsthatalsobenefited
theFoundation.First,alittlebackground.BeverlyChilds
hasafavoritestuffedrabbitnamedPercythataccompanies
Beverlytoevents.Thentheunthinkablehappened:Percy
disappeared.ItsoonbecameapparentthatPercyhadbeen
abductedaspicturessoonsurfacedoftherabbitinsome
strangesituations.Eventually,aransomdemandwasissued.
BeverlyhadtoraiseacertainamounttogetPercyback.She
wasabletomeetthesedemandsby“persuading”fellow
attendeestocontributetotheransom.Fortunately,allended
well,andPercyandBeverlywerereunited.Theransom
moneywasdonatedtotheFoundationanddulyrecordedas
income:RabbitRescue—$750.Ijusthavetogoonrecord
tosayIhadnothingtodowiththeabductionorransom
demand.Icannotspeakforothers!
ThenextspontaneouseventwasinitatedbyDottieAllen
andBettyBarth.Dottiedonatedanumberofcopiesofan
issueofSaberTailsfromwhenshewaseditor.Thefront
coverwasaphotoofZackHelmerwinningBestJuniorat
WestminsterKennelClub.Thefourjuniorswhowere
enteredintheshowwereputtothechallengeofselling
theseforadonationtotheFoundation.Withinabout45
minutesallcopiesweresoldandmorethan$500was
contributed.KatherineHowellwastheleadseller.Bothof
theseeventsweregreatfun.
Thankyoutoallinvolved.Thesedonationswillmake
adifferenceinthelivesofourPBGVsthroughresearch,
education,health-relatedactivitesandrescue.Theofficers
anddirectorsalsowanttothankeveryonewhohasmadea
donationtoFoundation.Yourgenerosityhasmadehealth,
rescueandresearchfundingpossible.
IwouldpersonallyliketothanktheFoundationboard
membersfortheworkeachputinbefore,duringandafter
theevent.Iamlookingforwardtoanotherproductiveyear
workingwithallofyou.
