FromtheFoundationPresident
HEALTH.InAugustLauraLiscumandIattendedthe
CanineHealthFoundation2013NationalParentClub
ConferenceinSt.Louis.Theconferencewasoutstanding.
Manyofthetopresearchersfromaroundthecountry
presentedtheircurrentresearchfindings.Laurahasincluded
anarticleinthisissuesummarizingthepresentations.In
betweensessionstherewastimetomeetmembersfrom
otherbreedclubs.Theseconversationswerealsovery
informative.Thefirstquestionwasalways“Whatbreed?”
ratherthan“What’syourname?”Oncetheconversations
started,thenquestionsandideaswereflowingfreely.We
wereaskedmanyquestionsaboutrescueandaboutfundraising
fortheFoundation.Whenaskedwherethemoneycomes
from,welookedatthepersonsortofquizzicallyandsaid,
“Fromourmembers,”andthenwentontoexplainthat
PBGVpeoplehavealwaysbeenverygenerouswithdona-
tionstotheFoundation.Ourmembersmakecontributions
largeandsmall,sometimesinhonoroforinmemoryof,
orwithnospecificreason.Ortheymaywanttoremain
anonymous.Theoneconstantisthatpeoplehavebeenvery
loyaltothebreed,andcaredeeplyaboutitshealthandwell-
being.Perhapsitcanbeattributedtothemagicalpowerof
thePBGV.YouknowwhatImean,wehaveallfeltit!
FUNDRAISING.PeggyEvanichandJoAnneHacker
havebeendiligentlyworkingoncompletingthefinal
requirementsforavehicledonationprogramthathopefully
willbeupandrunningbythetimethatthisissueofSaber
Tailsissent.Whentheprogrambecomesoperational,a
broadcaste-mailwillbesentandthedetailswillbeonthe
Foundationpageonpbgv.org.Manynon-profitsusethis
typeofdonationserviceverysuccessfully.

RESCUE.YoumaynotbeawaretheRescueCommitteeis
acommitteeofPBGVCA.Theactualfunctionofrescueisa
clubactivitywiththeRescueCommitteedoingallthehard
work.Rescueexpensesgothroughanapprovalprocessat
theclublevel.InvoicesarethenforwardedtotheFoundation
foritsapprovalandpayment.TheFoundationisvery
committedtothepartthatitplaysintherescueeffort,and
weacknowledgethechairperson,committeeandfostersthat
makeadifferenceinthelivesofthePBGVsthatcomeinto
