74 Saber Tails Winter 2016

Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America

ing farm where there are animals and goes on “dog-point” when we

near them. It’s the same with waterfalls and when we near neighbor-

ing towns: Toujours always “tells” us what’s ahead – and reminds

us throughout each day what’s really important in life: love for one

another, kindness, smiles, lots of laughter and sharing life together

each step of the way.

In January, we’ll all participate in the annual Oregon Truffle Festival

(www.oregontrufflefestival.com) where Tom and Toujours will attend

the two-day Truffle Dog Training Seminar.

We look forward to continuing Toujours’ scent, agility and show

training and hopefully one day soon, finding a lovely lass with whom

Toujours will continue his great linage.  Most of all, we look forward

to a fantastic future as a family. . .and, always together!

Wendy Weiland Martin

Tell us about yourself...

I am Wendy Weiland Martin currently living in Durham, North Carolina.  My kennel name is Jimeney Avanti.  Jimeny was

the name of my first dog as an adult.  She was a purebred cocker spaniel that I bought after my first husband died.  I did

everything wrong in finding her, but ended up with a dog with a lovely pedigree on the sire’s side and produced champion

cockers in the second generation.  I put a CD on Jimeny and through breeding her became involved in a local specialty

club, the national club and obedience training.  I co-breed with a long-time friend, Leslie Puppo, whom I have known

since my cocker spaniel days.  Her breeds are pointers and curly-coat retrievers, and she is the Avanti in my kennel name.

I am licensed by Homeland Security as a Customs Broker and work in trade compliance managing such things as import,

export and trade agreement regulations.  When not working or playing with my dogs, I enjoy sewing, knitting and writing.

I have been published in Chevy Truck magazine, ShowSight Magazine, and Womens Wear Daily.

I have been a member of the club since 2001 and chaired the 2010

National Specialty in St. Louis, Missouri. I also chaired the American

Spaniel Club’s summer national.  I have belonged to many dog clubs

including the Fremont (California) Dog Training Club, Mission Val-

ley (CA) Cocker Spaniel Club, Northern CA Ring Stewards Assoc,

American Spaniel Club, BelleCity (Illinois) Kennel Club, PBGVCA,

English Cocker Spaniel Club of America, Great Pyrenees Club of

America and River City (Owensville KY) Kennel Club.

I finally got my first PBGV at the first PBGVCA National in St. Louis

in 1995 from Sandy Ezersky, who became a dear friend.  Rudi was

a Newsflash baby and finished his championship easily by the time

he was 8 months old.  He was definitely my heart dog, and not just

because of the heart-shape on his coat.  I also got my second dog

from Sandy, and Pat Ramapuram.  Maisie died last year at 14.  I
